four older, adventurous americans(wife, myself, and another couple) are flying into punta cana, staying one night there and renting a van.  we are picking up our friend there and driving to santo domingo for a week stay.  jarabacoa sounds like a beautiful and friendly place and we would love to visit.  how long does it take to get there from SD?  we are renting a condo in SD but we would like to see more of DR and am sure we would get bored for a whole week in the city and if it is a long ride do not mind staying in jarabacoa for the night as to not be rushed.  any information would be appreciated... thanks

I believe that the drive from Santo Domingo to Jarabacoa is about 2 hours.

Once you reach the stretch between La Vega and Jarabacoa it should take you 30 min. to go through the beautiful mountain highway.

If you don't want to take your own vehicle to Jarabacoa, there is always Caribe Tours.  That will get you there fast, cheap, comfortably... and in air-conditioning!

thank you for the info.  am glad it is such a short ride, that was one reason we decided to stay in SD.  if we do decide to stay for the night do you have any suggestions for hotels?  thanks again
